Tesco,Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, skirmishing over falling sales, cannibalising their own profits with a price war, belatedly throwing margin cuts at the threat from the German discounters Aldi and Lidl. Asda’s parent company,Walmart, has cut its profits forecast too.
